Fires I have lit

Wishing I could lasso cloud, pull down that grey puzzle and cut a hole for the sun. Cloud ridin’ is from my illustration series that remembers what it was like be seven and trying to fly.

‘Hero’s wardrobe’ is a sketch I created as part of my comic poetry collaboration with artists, Skye O’Shea, Jackie Cavallaro and Tamara Eklins.
The poem below is from a writing exercise that some of my creative writing classes at UNSW have been working from. You can check out their work here

Shape-shifters got to play it straight.
She’s changed more times than a traffic light.
Left her shoes by the canyon and
set fire to her name. They say
she’s part fox.

As a kid I spent hours on our swing set, kicking my legs out till the chains sounded like they would snap. This was the closest feeling to flying and I’d stay there until the stars came out and dinner had long gone cold.
‘Kite ridin’ captures a little piece of this feeling and is from a series of ink and paper collage works I’ve been creating.
